Korean people often take part in volunteer work. Surveys show that roughly 10 percent of all Korean volunteered last year. Volunteer do the work out of the goodness of their hearts. They have no ulterior motive. They just want to lend a helping hand. These days, however, volunteer work can give people a competitive edge when they apply for college or try to find a job. Bonus points are given to people who have done volunteer work. As a result, many schools encourage students to volunteer. I am glad that so many people in Korea engage in volunteer work. It gives me hope that Korea has a bright future.

What did you do last weekend?

I did some volunteer work at the nursing home.

It felt very rewarding.
