Talk about how coffee has changed in Korea over the years.
Coffee has become one of the most popular drinks in Korea. Economic growth in Korea has improved quality of life, so the types of coffee that are most in demand are changing.
Before the 1990s, coffee was uaually a mix of instant coffee, sugar and non-dairy creamer. This was called 'dabang coffee.' Instant coffee mixes were developed after the 90's, to great acclaim. Certain amounts of coffee, sugar and creamer were placed in a packet. So people were able to enjoy a consistent flavor each time.
Since 2010, an emphasis on healthy living has taken root in our culture. Interest in whole bean coffee is increasing by the day. More and more people prefer black coffee to enjoy the natural aroma of coffee itself. People also like to personalize their drinks. These drinks are made to order at cafes.
Do you drink coffee at home?
Sure. I drink it every day.
How do you brew coffee?
I took the plunge on a pod coffee machine.
Oh, I see.
I also drink cold brew coffee these days. It's a bit of a hassle to make it, but the flavor can't be beat.
