How to grow plants indoors.

All houseplants are different, and each requires a different type of care. However, there are some general rules that apply in most cases for indoor gardening. Owners must learn to recognize when plants need water. It's comon rookie mistake to over-water plants. With the exception of succulents, the soil should always be moist but not soggy.

It's also important to ensure that houseplants get the right amount of sunlight. While all the plants get their energy from the sun, different houseplants requries different amounts of light. Most houseplants prefer indirect light over direct light, but normal househould lightbulbs are not effective in providing light. It's better to place pots near windows as needed.

Most home gardeners tend to underestimate the importance of potting soil. High-quality potting soil will provide the ideal balance of nutrition and water absorption. It's best to choose a potting soil specific to each houseplants. The soil should be placed in a pot that is proportional to the plant's size. If the plant overgrows its pot, it should be transplanted into a large one.

Finally, it can be helpful to supply nutrients to a plant using fertilizers. However, fertilizers aren't necessay all year long. As a rule of thumb, houseplants should be fertilized once a month while they are growing or flowering. There is no harm in decreasing or even stopping fertilizer use during the winter months.
