Talk about the trend of getting married later in life.
According to recent statistics, the average age at the first marriage in Korea is 33.4 for men, and 30.6 for women. It is a clear trend that both men and women are getting hitched at an older age.
There are a number of reasons for this upward trend. Most basically, people's perception of marriage itself is undergoing a change. The prevailing view among younger generations is that tying the knot is not a necessity. That's why they tend to put off marriage unless they meet 'the one'.
Even among people who are considering getting married, many delay the wedding to focus on their careers. It also take much longer than before to become financially stable enought for marriage.
Do you ever think about tying the knot?
I don't know. I haven't met the right person yet.
Isn't your family on your back about the marriage issue?
Of course. That goes without saying.
Their expectations must weigh on you.
Sometimes. Whenever we get together for the holidays, my relatives keep asking me the same question.
