Education is a top priority in Korean society. The private sector education here is famous. Private education refers to all types of education that take place outside of official school classes. There are many privately-owned education services. Students of all ages often go to cram schools called hagwon. These places teach various subjects. Students often study major subjects in advance, before they are taught in school. Many also have private tutors. Top-notch private education is very expensive. It can be a big burden on the parents' shoulders. However, many parents go out of their way to provide the best academic assistance to their children.
