Leading up to the new year, it's typical to send New Year's card to family, friends, colleagues and clients, and there are special delivery services that guarantee delivery of theses handwritten cards on January 1. So, as you can see, many people take this very seriously. on New Year's Eve there are many traditional activities and customs, including specific foods that should be eaten in order to bring luck in the coming year.

The setting is bucolic. Wide, lush fields, farm animals, a clear sky, a setting sun... and giant leaves of lettuce? This performance by the Farm to Ballet company in Poultney, Vermont has dancers portraying plants, including giant lettuce leaves. The corps de ballet is dressed in green and the dancers wave giant green and purple leaves in time to the music. Dancers dressed as tomatoes, farm animals and farmers are helping to tell the story of the growing season. The 25 dancers range in age, from 18 to 74.
