Invasive Species (1)

 

What are invasive species and how much of a problem are they around the world? In other words, why should we be concerned about this issue?

Invassive species are really organism that spread in new non-native habitats. They can be anything: animal, vegetable, insects, mollusks, vertebrates, plants, microbes including viruses, and altogether they're a big deal. The estimated global impact, and this is just from invasive insects alone, is estimated to exceed seventy billion US dollars a year in lost goods and services and seven billion dollars a year in increased health costs and some of that's from insects that vector disease.
