Used coffee grounds for gardening.
Coffee is one of the world's most popular beverages. And as its popularity grows, so too does the amount of used coffee grounds produced. As a result, people are now looking for creative ways to use coffee gounds. Some people are using coffee grounds as plant fertilizer, either after composting them, or by placing them directly into the soil.
There's no special technique required to compost used coffee gounds. Just throw the grounds onto your compost pile and that's it. If the grounds are in a paper coffee filter, you can just toss that on the pile, too. Certain types of reusable coffee filters can also be composted.
If your home doesn't have adequate facilities to maintain a compost pile, there's no need to worry. Coffee grounds can be discarded straight into soil as fertilizer, thereby bypassing the composting stage. However, while coffee gounds do add nitrogen to compost, they will not immediately add nitrogen to soil.
Using coffee grounds as fertilizer adds organic material to soil, which improves many of soil's essential functions such as absorbing water and releasing carbon dioxide, CO2. The used coffee grounds also help microorganisms beneficial to plant growth to thrive. In short, there's no real downside to tossing coffee grounds into a compost pile or directly into soil.
