In Korea, it is mandatory for all able-bodied men to serve in the military for roughly two years. They can serve in the Army, Air Force, Navy or Marines. Most people serve in their early 20s. Men receive a physical when they come of age. Later, they get an enlistment notice. Military service can be delayed if there is a good reason. New enlistees receive basic training at boot camp. Often, they are accompanied by their families to the entry ceremony. It's easy to get homesick in the military. When the service period is over, soldiers are discharged. Most people really look forward to this day.
