Apartments are the most common form of housing in Korea. A major difference compared to western houses is that in Korea, shoes are not worn indoors. This difference can be seen right away at the front door. There is a separate areas where the shoes are taken off. Bathrooms are also very different. In western homes, only the bathtub or shower booth gets wet. However, Korean bathroom floors typically have tiles. It's okay for the floor to get wet. The water goes down through a floor drain. This makes it easy to clean the bathroom or wash clothes by hand. Perhaps the most unique aspect of housing in Korea is heating. There are what's called ondol floors, which refer to floors that are heated by hot water pipes underneath.
