Fire evacuation plan.

An unforeseen and extreme event like a house fire is the last thing most of us would expect in our lives. We see events like these on the news, or hear harrowing accounts from others, but we rarely expect something so dramatic to happen to us. The fact is, however, these types of events are more common than one might think. A disregard for safety can make matters worse.

If a fire does occur, just a few seconds can make a big difference to help you quickly get to safety. It helps to create fire evacuation plan, and to hold fire drills in advance. You may not be able to act rationally in an emergency, which is why it's best to take action automatically.

For a fire evacuation plan to work, you have to plan for everyone. You should take into account the special needs of everyone in your household. For example, children don't always wake up when a smoke alarm goes off, and elderly family members may not be able to move as quickly. Make sure someone is in charge of helping them.

Speed is of the essence in an emergency. To ensure quick action, make sure everyone knows what to do if the smoke detector goes off. With a good plan and some practice, it should be possible for everyone to emerge safe and sound from a fire.
