Talk about traditional Korean polychrome paintings.
We can categorize paintings as Korean and Western. Roughly speaking, the difference between the two comes down to surfaces and lines. Western paintings place an emphasis on surfaces. Wide brushes are used to fill all areas. In contrast, Korean ink paintings emphasize lines. Finer brushes are used, playing up the beauty of blank space.
Korea has polychrome paintings as well. They use solid pigments which are ground up and mixed with water to fill the spaces. Usually they are drawn on thick paper. Folk paintings which are familiar to us are a type of polychrome painting. Modern Korean colored paintings are not that different from Western ones. As a casual glance, it's hard to tell the difference.
Wow, did you paint that all on your own?
Yes, that's right. I picked it up as a hobby.
You have gift.
Oh, no. I'm so just a beginner.
What kind of painting is this?
It's a Korean polychrome painting.
